Objectives: To identify the presence of any imaging patterns of the syndrome, and to clarify the effects of immunogulobulin therapy for the syndrome.
Methods: Serial MRIs of a 7 year-old boy with Rasmussen syndrome who has been successfully treated with high dose immunoglobulin biweekly were analyzed volumetrically.
Results: The volume loss of the left hemisphere was evident at the beginning of the disease. The volume of the right hemisphere has not been changed. There has been no significantly high volume loss of the left hemisphere in the one year course of the disease.
Conclusion: The results show that unilateral hemisphere is affected in Rasmussen syndrome, and the immunoglobulin therapy might be effective against hemispheric atrophy. Because our observation period is only one year, longer period analyses would be necessary.
