ACUPUNCTURE MECHANISM IN CHILD NEUROLOGY
Objective: A study of the mechanism of acupuncture therapy on handicapped children with neuroimaging approach.
Methods: We developed a software to establish a 3D-stereo neuroimaging from classic MRI. The brain volume was compared with this new technique before and after acupuncture treatment.
Results: The results of 3D reconstruction neuroimages with volume analysis suggested that cortical growth was found in some cases after acupuncture stimulation was given.
Conclusion: We hypothesize that this neuronal growth may be induced by nerve growth factor or neural stem cells after acupuncture stimulation. But this findings require further scientitic animal study.
Based on the findings of this study, we suggest that acupuncture treatment may be a useful add-on therapy in those children with neurological diseases.
