Objectives: Our research was aimed at studying an efficacy of nootropic preparation cerebrolysin on restorating cognitive functions in children with consequences of meningoencephalitis.

Methods: Methods of research. To determine the findings of a level of cognitive disorders 60 children suffering from an acute secondary menigoencephalitis using a test of Simernitskaya “Luria-90” and Wexler test for children to determine a level of intellectual development in children have been examined. To establish a state of cerebral circulation a method of ultrasound transcranial dopplerography of cerebral vessels was used. All the examinees were divided into 2 groups: 1 group (n=30) received cerebrolysin at 1ml (0.04g) i/m as a single administration during 10 days and basic therapy; 2 group (n=30) only received basic therapy.

Results: Results. Results of examination before treatment by using a Simernitskaya test (Luria-90) showed disturbances in hearing-speech and visual memories, disturbances in thinking activity and a low level of remote memory that evidences difficulties in preservation of information received. A total intellectual index varied in limits 32–67 (average 59). A repeated examination of patients after treatment exhibited a reliable increase n as compared with indices before treatment in the 1st group, treated with cerebrolysin, whereas these indices changed minimally in the 2nd group, that only received a basic therapy. A clear positive dynamic observed to be in the 1st group in indices of hearing-speech and visual memories that evidenced a high efficacy of neurometabolic therapies.

Conclusion: Therefore, results of research carried out confirmed a positive effect of a course of therapy with cerebrolysin in treatment of consequences of the suffering meningoencephalitis, that allows to achieve a marked improvement of indices of the higher cerebral functions.
