Objectives: In the literature there are only a few investigations connected with the occurrence and the role of anticardiolipin antibodies in children migraine. The results of these researches are often controversial. The aim of the study assessment is the values of anticardiolipin antibodies in children with migraine differ from the control group. We tried to assess if the type of migraine (with aura or without aura) changes their values.

Methods: Sixty patients in mean age 10.9±3.2 years –30 children with migraine hospitalized from January 2000 to December 2003 in Department of Developmental Neurology Medical University of Gdañsk in Poland and 30 healthy children were investigated. The values of anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL) in class IgA, IgM and IgG were assessed by the immunoenzymatic method (ELISA test).

Results: The values of anticardiolipin antibodies in IgA and IgG class differ statistically between group with migraine and control group. The patients with migraine present higher values than control group, but they were not very high. The values of aCL did not differentiate the type of migraine.

Conclusion: Children with migraine present the higher values of anticardiolipin antibodies than control group although their role in the pathogenesis of migraine remain still unclear. The further observation is needed, to assume if the high values of aCL is one of the signs of evaluating disease.
