Zusammenfassung

Lycopus europaeus ist ein wenig bekanntes, wertvolles, homöopathisches Arzneimittel, das zu Unrecht etwas in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Die Pflanze, aus deren frischem, blühendem Kraut die Urtinktur hergestellt wird, gehört botanisch zur Familie der Labiaten. Tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen haben ergeben, daß Lycopus europaeus, wie auch Lycopus virginicus aus Nordamerika, die Wirkung des thyreotropen Hormons der Hypophyse aufheben und damit die Bildung und Ausschüttung von Thyroxin aus der Schilddrüse verhindern. Die antithyreoide Wirkung hat sich auch therapeutisch bestätigt. Nach den in der Literatur dargestellten Beobachtungen und Erfahrungen eignet sich Lycopus europaeus vor allem für die Behandlung von leichten bis mittelschweren Hyperthyreosen mit Herzklopfen, Herzschmerzen und Herzangst. Das Mittel wird von der Urtinktur bis zu mittleren Potenzen angewendet. Bei abnormer Überregbarkeit des Nervensystems empfiehlt sich die Verordnung der D12, daes bei tieferen Potenzen u.U. zu Verschlimmerungsreaktionen kommen kann. Es liegt auch ein Arzneimittelbild für Lycopus europaeus vor, das allerdings ausschließlich auf langjährigen Beobachtungen bei der Therapie basiert. Eine von Assmann du rchgeführte Arzneimittelprüfung nach Hahnemann blieb ergebnislos.

Lycopus europaeus is a little-known, valuable homoeopathic remedy which has, unjustifiably, been somewhat neglected in the past. The plant from whose fresh flowering parts and leaves the mothertincture has been manufactured is, botanically, a member of the labiate family (Labiatae). Animal experiments have shown that both Lycopus europaeus and Lycopus virginicus, indigenous to North America, counteract the effect of the thyreotropic hormone from the pituitary gland (hypo-physis), thus inhibiting the formation and distribution of thyroxine from the thyroid gland. This antithyroidal effect has been con-firmed therapeutically. According to the observations and experience presented in literature, Lycopus europaeus is principally suitable for the treatment of hyperthyroidism of mild to medium severity accompanied by cardiac palpitation, cardiac (thoracic) pains and the anxiety they produce. Lycopus is applied in strengths ranging from the mother tincture to medium potencies. In cases of abnormal hypersensitivity of the nervous System, prescription of the twelfth decimal potency (12 X) is recommended as lower potencies might, under certain circumstances, produce signs of aggravation as a reac-tion. A picture of its homoeopathic Symptoms (drug pathogenesy) has been recorded which, however, is exclusively based on many years of observation during therapy. A homoeopathic proving carried out by Assmann in accordance with specifications by Hahnemann was, however, not successful.
