Summary
Studies suggest that for treatment of syndesmotic disruptions of the ankle, bioabsorbable screw fixation and conventional stainless steel screw fixation lead to similar ranges of dorsal motion, medial clear space, duration of sick leave, and complications. Further randomized studies with a large sample size and long period of follow-up are needed to verify that clinical outcomes and quality of life are similar between treatment groups.
