The 31st Annual Meeting of the German-speaking Society for Neuropediatrics of Austria, Germany and Switzerland takes place in Erlangen, Germany, from 21–23 April 2005 and will be followed by the Academy for Education from 23–24 April 2005. The program contains scientific sessions, educational courses and satellite meetings. This volume includes abstracts of the scientific contributions, both invited lectures and free communications.

The main topics of the congress and this collection of abstracts are:

• mitochondrial encephalomyopathies: clinical and neuroradiological spectrum, biochemical and molecular diagnostics, therapeutic options

• neonatal neurology: physiology and pathophysiology of early brain development, mechanisms of neonatal brain injury, up-date on neonatal seizures and neuromuscular diseases

• neuroendocrinology: CNS mid-line defects and consequences; clinical aspects, molecular diagnostics; neuroendocrine active CNS tumours

• pharmacoresistant epilepsy in childhood: clinical, diagnostic and molecular aspects, functional imaging
