1. Statistik/Lernziele

Alkoholismus und Alkoholfolgeerkrankungen stellen weltweit ein schwerwiegendes soziales und medizinisches Problem dar. Nach statistischen Erhebungen der Deutschen Hauptstelle für Suchtfragen e. V. (DHS) beläuft sich die Zahl der missbräuchlichen Alkoholkonsumenten (nach DSM-IV) auf ca. 2,5 Mio., die der Alkoholabhängigen auf ca. 1,5 Mio., wobei Männer häufiger als Frauen betroffen sind (Veröffentlichungen der DHS). Zahlreiche Studien zeigen, dass neben Umweltfaktoren auch genetische Faktoren zur Entwicklung der Alkoholabhängigkeit beitragen. Die Therapieerfolge sind bescheiden nicht zuletzt aufgrund komorbider Faktoren wie z. B. Persönlichkeitsstörungen und Angststörungen. Die Lebenserwartung von Alkoholkranken ist im Vergleich zur Normalbevölkerung um ca. 15 % ( = 10 Jahre) reduziert. Pro Jahr sterben in Deutschland ca. 50 000 Menschen an den internistischen oder neurologischen Komplikationen der Alkoholkrankheit. Der Anteil alkoholbedingter Todesfälle an allen Todesfällen der Altersgruppe zwischen 35 und 65 Jahren beträgt bei Männern 35 % und bei Frauen 13 % [1].

Etwa 2,5 Mio. Deutsche betreiben einen Alkoholmissbrauch, ca. 1,5 Mio. sind alkoholabhängig. Männer sind häufiger betroffen als Frauen.

Dieser Artikel soll eine Übersicht der neuropsychiatrischen Alkoholfolgeerkrankungen geben, wobei insbesondere auch aktuelle Aspekte der Pathophysiologie der einzelnen Erkrankungen einfließen.
