Summary

The quality of the literature on this topic prevents a definitive statement about the effect of reamed versus unreamed intramedullary nailing. This report suggests that there may be no statistically significant difference in outcomes of union and complications comparing these two treatments for either open or closed tibial fractures. Additional studies with stronger methods and study power that measure patient function and quality of life should be performed in these subgroups.
