The analysis was carried out with a set of 60 patients suffering from carcinoma of the pharynx and supraglottis treated at the Clinic of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in Brno within 1991–1999. Most patients (96,7%) underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy that, because of statistical evaluation, was divided into 5 groups, followed by surgery and postoperative irradiation. Besides routine examinations, flow cytometric analysis of DNA was performed and Ki-67 marker was established by means of immunohistochemistry. The statistical analysis of results in our set has shown the importance of monitoring tumor cells in S phase as an indicator of therapeutical results of the regimens studied; a higher share of cells in S phase shows a high probability of reaching long-term or medium-term survial. The patients threatened by risks of direct progression–lower share of cells in S phase and increased occurrence of G2/M phase are typical–can be determined quite explicitly. More significant statistical conclusions can be presented even after involving apoptosis and mitosis into a multi-dimensional analysis.
