Abstract

ABSTRACT

Image-guided percutaneous drainage of abdominal and pelvic abscesses has become the treatment of choice for the majority of intra-abdominal fluid collections. In this article, we describe in detail the techniques available for image-guided percutaneous catheter placement, the advantages and disadvantages of the various imaging modalities available for guidance of catheter placement, and approaches to cases with difficult or limited percutaneous access. In addition, we review the current concepts of intracavitary thrombolytics.
