Many years of experience and trial and error have led to the development of the current
technique: Lateral SMASectomy for rhytidectomy. This technique removes the SMAS portion
over the anterior edge of the parotid gland and allows pull of the mobile anterior
SMAS for improvement of the nasolabial fold and jawline without the higher rate of
SMAS tearing or facial nerve injury. It has allowed consistent, good results with
minimal morbidity.
