This article provides an overview of investigations of treatments for acquired apraxia
of speech (AOS). Published treatment reports are summarized in tabular form to provide
the reader with a resource for selecting and evaluating the empirical support for
AOS treatments. The treatment summary highlights the fact that most available AOS
treatments have limited data to support their use. A particularly problematic aspect
of the AOS treatment literature is a lack of replication of treatment findings. A
review is provided of the few AOS treatments for which findings have been replicated.
The reader is urged to be cautious in selecting treatments and to carefully document
treatment effects because of the limited treatment database.
