Publication History

Publication Date:
13 November 2002 (online)

The small bowel is about to be taken over by capsule endoscopy; the vast majority of abstracts during this year’s Digestive Disease Week (DDW) were devoted to this new technique, and only a few studies were presented on push enteroscopy, which (this should not be forgotten) provides facilities for biopsy and therapy, although its reach is quite limited. Whether capsule endoscopy will take over entirely, and what its impact on outcomes will be, have yet to be seen. Although many capsule endoscopy abstracts dealt with unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), other indications were also reported on.
