Zusammenfassung
Ziel: Das Hohenheimer Konsensusgespräch sollte einen Überblick über die vielen unterschiedlichen
und widersprüchlichen Aussagen zum Thema Bovine Spongiforme Enzephalopathie (BSE)
verschaffen. Es sollten bestehende Kenntnisse zusammengefasst und Bereiche des Nichtwissens
identifiziert werden. Ausführung: Experten einer Reihe relevanter Disziplinen erhielten und erörterten eine Reihe von
Fragen zu dem Aspekt des aktuellen Themengebietes. Ort: Universität Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Deutschland. Intervention: Die Experten trafen sich, diskutierten die Fragen und kamen zu einem Konsens. Schlussfolgerung: BSE ist eine Prion-Erkrankung, die wahrscheinlich auch auf den Menschen übertragbar
ist. Die Krankheit ist bisher nur bei Säugetieren nachgewiesen worden. Impfungen sind
noch in der Erprobungsphase. Die Prionen werden über Gehirnmaterial und Blut übertragen,
andere Übertragungswege sind nahezu ausgeschlossen. Theoretisch ist auch eine Übertragung
durch Medikamente möglich. Durch ein speziell eingeführtes Verbraucherschutz-Institut
wurden neue Kontrollen veranlasst, die die Risiken eindämmen sollen.
