ABSTRACT
The lateral thoracodorsal flap was designed for breast reconstruction in combination
with an implant. It has been extensively used by us, mostly with a cosmetic good result.
The fasciocutaneous flap is dissected from the lateral thoracic region and based ventrally.
The blood supply to the flap originates from lateral intercostal perforators at the
level of the submammary crease. The perfusion within the flap depends on the choke
vessels between different areas of transsected intercostal perforators, which are
connected to each other, forming subcutaneous arcades.
