The preparation of 2,2’-bis(bromomethyl), 2,2’-bis(iodomethyl) and 2,2’-bis(phenylthiomethyl)dihydropyrans is described for potential use as selective protecting agents for 1,2-diols as their corresponding dispiroketals.
