A series of bulky organoaluminum reagents was evaluated as Lewis acidic receptors for discrimination of two structurally different ketones. By combining use of these aluminum reagents with nucleophilic organometallics, MAD was found to be highly effective for functionalization of less hindered ketones, while ATPH can be utilized for more hindered ketone functionalization.
