A simple synthetic method for α-alkyl-γ-methylene-γ-butyrolactones 8 from easily available diallyl alkyl(2-propynyl)malonates 7 by the palladium(0)-catalyzed tandem cyclization and hydrogenolysis with formic acid is reported.
