Arylnaphthalene lignan lactones 1a-e were synthesized in a one-pot procedure from methyl 4-aryl-1-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-naphthoates 2a-e prepared from the corresponding cyanohydrins, based on a tandem aromatization-lactonization reaction.
