Bis-o-xylyl crowns, which bear two macrocyclic polyether rings on a common benzene ring, have been synthesized regioselectively by the template reaction of 1,2,4,5-tetrakis-(bromomethyl)benzene (1) and oligoethylene glycolates (2).
