By use of an enzyme extract from calf liver containing uridine-5′ -diphospho-N-acetylglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (EC 2.7.7.23) and chemically produced N-acetylglucosamine-1-phosphate (GlcNAc-α-1-P), uridine-5′ -diphospho-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) was synthesized on a preparative scale.
