6,12-Dihydro-6-hydroxycannabidiol (3; 2-[6-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-3-methyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl]-5-pentyl-1,3-benzenediol) was isolated from the reaction of olivetol (1; 1-pentyl-3,5-dihydroxybenzene) and cis-p-menth-2-ene-1,8-diol (2). This pure, crystalline intermediate facilitates a directed synthesis of title compound 4 (6a,7,8,10a-tetrahydro-1-hydroxy-6,6,9-trimethyl-3-pentyl-6H-dibenzo[b,d]pyran).
