Unsaturated carboxylic acids are obtained by reductive electrocarboxylation of a series of allenes with nickel(II) complexes as the catalyst in the presence of a magnesium anode. The influence of steric and electronic effects on the regioselectivity for carbon dioxide incorporation is discussed.
