1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinoline is converted into the zirconocene η2-imine complexes 2 or 3 via a C-H activation process. These complexes react efficiently with a range of unactivated alkenes, alkynes and allenes to afford azazircona-cyclopentanes. Workup with methanol gives the 2-substituted tetrahydroquinolines in good yield.
