The reaction of diethylamidomagnesium bromide, prepared from ethylmagnesium bromide and diethylamine, titanium(IV) chloride-tetrahydrofuran (1:2), and zirconium(IV) chloride, respectively, in diethyl ether/benzene as solvent gives the metal tetrakis(diethylamides), M(NEt2)4 (M = Ti,Zr), in 40-50% and 80% yield, respectively. In order to obtain halogen-free, pure products dioxane has to be added in the work-up procedure.
