A Convenient, One-Pot-Synthesis of 12-Oxo-6,12-dihydroquinazolino [2,3-c][1,4]benzoxazines and -benzothiazines

12-Oxo-6,12-dihydroquinazolino [2,3-c][1,4]-benzoxazines 3a-e and -benzothiazines 3f-i are easily prepared in very good yields in a onestep process by reacting the appropriate 3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazines and -benzthiazines 1 with phosphoryl chloride in dichloroethane followed by in situ cyclocondensation of the resulting imidoyl chlorides with anthranilic acid (2).
