The isocyanate type intermediate photochemically generated from 5,5-diethyl-hexahydropyrimidine-2,4,6-trione reacts smoothly with various amino nucleophiles yielding N-(2-ethyl-butyryl)-N′-substituted imidodicarbonic diamides. The advantages and limitations of the method are discussed.
