Some useful synthetic advances related to organic sulfur compounds are reviewed that have occurred since issue 16 years ago of the comprehensive Houben-Weyl-Müller Volume IX. Uses of sulfur chemistry to synthesize final products containing no sulfur have been notable, and such products are emphasized in italics for the general reader.
