The Hypoiodite Reaction (HR) is one of the most versatile methods for intramolecular substition on non-activated centers. It can be used for the synthesis of various classes of compounds, such as tetrahydrofurans, lactones, γ-cyanoketones, etc. In the present review article, practical and theoretical aspects of the hypoiodite reaction are discussed and illustrated by appropriate experimental procedures.
