Endoscopic Resection of Upper Gastrointestinal Submucosal Tumors STER versus ESD: Experience from A Tertiary Care Center in South India
Introduction: ESD and STER are two techniques used for endoscopic resection of upper GI submucosal tumors. We analyzed the clinical profile and differences in outcomes of patients who underwent STER or ESD.
Methods: Retrospective data from the patients who underwent STER or ESD from July 2019 to December 2023 in our institute were analyzed. Patients underwent OGDscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, and biopsy if needed prior to procedure.
Conclusion: STER and ESD are safe and effective treatments for upper gastrointestinal submucosal tumors. STER is better in lesions involving muscularis propria layer and also has comparatively decreased hospital stay.
