External Revalidation of (MC)2 Risk Score as a Predictor for Post-Renal Cryoablation Complications

Introduction: Few models have been developed to predict success rate and complication rate post-renal cryoablation. The (MC)2 risk score is proposed as a valuable tool for predicting major complications in patients undergoing renal cryoablation. We aim to validate the (MC)2 risk score as reliable predictor.

Method(s): A retrospective analysis of technical, radiological, and clinical outcomes was undertaken after treatment of 30 consecutive tumors in 28 patients over the period of 4 years. Demographic data, renal mass characteristics (maximum diameter and central location), and clinical risk factors (myocardial infarction and complicated diabetes mellitus) were obtained. Clinical outcomes (length of hospital stay and complications) and radiological outcomes (tumor recurrence) were obtained.

Result(s): A total of 40% of patients were redeemed low risk while 33% were redeemed moderate risk for complications and 27% were redeemed high risk on the (MC)2 risk score. One patient experienced major complications who was redeemed as low risk and recurrence occurred in 10% of patients who were redeemed high risk.

Conclusion(s): Applying the (MC)2 risk score system on our institutional data showed its poor reflectivity of major complications post-cryoablation with benefit to predict recurrence. External validation is warranted.
