Interventional Radiology in Palliative Care and Pain Management

Introduction: Image-guided palliation procedures offer targeted intervention with lower morbidity and shorter recovery time compared with surgical interventions. Our objective is to highlight the importance of palliative care and pain management in interventional radiology and to review interventional pain procedure.

Method(s): In this educational poster, we will highlight the importance of palliative care and pain management in interventional radiology by preforming a review of the literature and by presenting case-based examples to illustrate the positive impact on patient care and quality of life.

Result(s): A total of eight interesting cases were used as examples to portray therapeutic interventions performed by interventional radiologists. The cases primarily included nerve blocks for the pudendal, anococcygeal, genicular, splanchnic, intercostal, and ilioinguinal nerves.

Conclusion(s): A comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to pain management and palliative care using interventional radiology can be used to treat chronic pain can provide relief to the patients.
