Infrared Thermography—Diagnostic Method in Peripheral Artery Disease
Introduction: Artificial intelligence supported infrared thermography (AISIT) is a noninvasive, real-time diagnostic method that captures the natural infrared radiation (IR) energy from the human body, which in turn generates a thermographic image to allow angiosome-based tissue perfusion.
Method(s): We present case series of lower limb ischemia diagnosed via AISIT and compared with ankle brachial index (ABI) and angiographic data in 40 patients before and after revascularization.
Result(s): After statistical data evaluation, we found sensitivity of AISIT compared with ABI and angiosome between 86 and 99% in different vascular segments both in diagnostic and postinterventional follow-up period.
Conclusion(s): AISIT can be used as a reliable method for early diagnosis and postprocedural follow-up of patients with PAD providing noninvasive data about tissue microcirculation confirming angiosome concepts.
