Intraoperative Angiogram via Trans-radial Arterial Access in the Prone Position for AVM Resection
Introduction: The introduction of intraoperative digital subtraction angiography (iDSA) within the hybrid room context has led to safe, feasible surgeries that are cost-effective. Along with the possibility of presurgical embolization, iDSA is utilized to localize small arteriovenous malformation (AVM).
Method(s): This is a retrospective review of two cases in which the iDSA was done utilizing the radial access while the patients were in the prone position. One case was an elective procedure and the other was an emergent surgery.
Result(s): In both patients, this approach allowed for clear visualization of the AVMs while the craniotomy is still open, obviating the need for an interval angiogram.
Conclusion(s): Performing intraoperative angiograms utilizing the trans-radial arterial access while the patient is in the prone position is a safe and effective modality to optimize AVM resections.
