Im Jahr 2009 hat die Europäische Arzneimittelagentur zwei weitere Pneumokokken-Impfstoffe für die Impfung von Säuglingen zugelassen. Diese Studie zielt darauf ab, die Kostenwirksamkeit der universellen Säuglingsimpfung (<2 Jahre alt) mit einem 13-wertigen Pneumokokken-Konjugatimpfstoff (PCV13) im Vergleich zu einem 10-wertigen Pneumokokken-Konjugatimpfstoff (PCV10) zur Prävention von Pneumokokken-Erkrankungen zu bewerten.
