In der aktuellen Nomenklatur der American Association of Endodontists [1] wird die vertikale Wurzelfraktur (Vertical Root Fracture) unter dem Stichwort „Fracture“ als separate Entität unter den (verschiedenen Formen von) Zahnfrakturen erwähnt. Diese in Einleitungen zu wurzelfrakturspezifischen Artikeln gerne zitierte Definition deckt sich jedoch nicht in allen Belangen mit Beobachtungen anderer Autoren bzw. eigenen Feststellungen des Autors.
