Zahlreiche Eingriffe am Kopf lassen sich am stehenden Pferd durchführen, wenn eine Sedierung in Kombination mit einer Lokalanästhesie genutzt wird. Auf diese Weise kann man die Risiken einer Allgemeinanästhesie umgehen. Die Autorin stellt praxistaugliche Sedierungen für Eingriffe am stehenden Pferd sowie die gängigsten Lokalanästhesien für Eingriffe an den Zähnen und den Augen vor.
