Laut Gesundheitsberichtserstattung des Bundes (GBI) gab es 2015 deutschlandweit 27 489 Betten zur intensivmedizinischen Versorgung [5]. Etwa 90 % aller radiologischen Untersuchungen in der Intensivmedizin stellen Röntgenaufnahmen des Thorax, Abdomens und Skelettsystems dar [10]. Dieser Artikel soll einen Überblick über die MTRA-Tätigkeiten auf den Intensivstationen schaffen und Lösungsansätze bei immer wiederkehrenden Problemen aufzeigen.

Bedside-radiology in ICU is an important part of imaging diagnostics; it provides reliable and essential information for possible therapy options in a relatively easy and quickly accessible way. In addition to the justification of radiation exposure, it is important to set the focus on accurate patient positioning and the reproducible use of the image parameters (X-ray beam, field limitation, exposure parameter), as this ultimately contributes to the diagnostic evaluation of an X-ray image. For radiographer, this method of examination in ICU is a physically strenuous challenge, not only due to the increasing mean weight of patients, but all the more so because the number of staff is decreasing – both radiographer and in health care – therefore it leads to a continuous physical strain for radiology personnel. In order to minimize the strain on radiology staff, all of the available supporting tools should be used to the full.
