Professor Matthew J. Allen Appointed as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, VCOT

Commencing with this first issue of the Veterinary and Comparative Orthopaedics and Traumatology (VCOT) journal in 2023, Professor Matthew J. Allen has taken up the role as Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Matthew brings great experience and expertise in the field of musculoskeletal research. After being awarded his veterinary degree and PhD from Cambridge University, UK, he leads research groups in comparative musculoskeletal research at Purdue University, Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, and The Ohio State University, before returning to the University of Cambridge as Professor of Small Animal Surgery.

Matthew's research spans a wide field including osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal oncology, clinical gait analysis, surgical navigation and robotics. His major clinical interest is in total joint replacement, with an emphasis on primary and revision total knee replacement in dogs and cats.

Beyond his own programme of research, Matthew has held a keen interest in mentoring new investigators and graduate students, to assist them to develop their own career in musculoskeletal research. Together with other leaders in research, Matthew plays an important role in the AO PEER programme within the AO Foundation. Through a variety of courses and webinars, the AO PEER programme provides research training that helps clinicians and scientists to become more effective clinical researchers.

With such impressive credentials and experience, Professor Allen is a welcome contributor to the VCOT editorial team, and he will ensure that we continue to publish the best possible research in the field of VCOT. It's great to have Professor Allen serve in this role. We are very happy to welcome you to this new position.
