Introduction: The goal of this study was to report the usability of an artificial intelligence (AI) program for the delivery of pre- and post-operative information regarding TPLO surgery. We hypothesized that incorporating this application would be an efficient, acceptable delivery system of TPLO procedural information.

Materials and Methods: Clients were invited to download an AI-enabled application during their initial consult for a TPLO procedure between August and October 2021. The owners of patients that proceeded to surgery and downloaded the program were sent a follow-up survey regarding their experience.

Results: A total of eleven clients were sent instructions to download the application designed by HIA. Within the study period, eight clients had a TPLO performed on their dog and utilized the AI informational program. Of those patients that proceeded to surgery, 87.5% completed the anonymous follow-up survey. Based on survey responses, 100% of clients reported they were well prepared, their concerns and questions were well addressed, and the application was user-friendly and easy to follow.

Discussion/Conclusion: Based on anonymous questionnaires, all clients agreed that the AI program delivered easy to use clinical and educational information that addressed their concerns and prepared them pre- and post-operatively. The hypothesis that an AI program would be an acceptable delivery system for TPLO procedural information therefore was accepted.
