Introduction Studies have shown that quality of sleep is impaired in patients with CRSwNP. The aim of the following study was to find out whether this symptom could be improved by therapy with Omalizumab.

Method 16 patients with N-ERD (NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease), CRSwNP and asthma who received therapy with Omalizumab (10 f, 6 m, Ø 51 years) were included. Rhinological and pneumological parameters (NP- and ACT-score), the RSOM-31 total score with the subscales “sleep” and “emotional consequences” as well as the SF-36 were evaluated prior and after a 3-month therapy with Omalizumab.

Results The NP-score was significantly reduced after 3 months (mean 2.9 / mean 1.3; p = 0.001) and asthma control was significantly improved (mean 16.5 / 20.1; p = 0.008). The RSOM-31 total score (p = 0.001) with the subscales “sleep” (p = 0.037) and “emotional consequences” (p = 0.008) as well as the SF-36 (p = 0.001) improved 3 months after therapy with Omalizumab.

Conclusions In addition to complex favorable rhinological and pneumological effects, there is an improved quality of life and sleep after therapy with Omalizumab in patients with N-ERD.
