Impact on overweight and obesity as a risk factor for chronic laryngitis
Background The WHO estimates that 35% of people worldwide over the age of 20 are obese or have a BMI ≥ 25kg / m2 (34% of men and 35% of women). Aim To study the relationship between obesity in people with chronic laryngitis and to identify correlations.
Materials and methods A total of 141 patients aged 15-85 years were examined in a hospital-based instant model from outpatient clinics of the ENT. Obesity was measured by height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, body mass index greater than 30 kg / m2 , waist circumference> 94 cm, and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 23 software.
Results Of the 141 people diagnosed with chronic laryngitis, 69 (48.9%) were men and 72 (51.0%) were women. The total age of the cases in the Pythagorean classification was 0-20 years 3 (2.1%), 20-40 years 38 (26.9%), 40-60 years 79 (56%), and 60-80 years 21 (14.8%). The cases of chronic laryngitis based on BMI is P = 0.35 in men and P = 0.01 in women. Based on the size of the lumbar region, the cases of chronic laryngitis in both sexes was P = 0.7 in men and P = 0.03 in women. In addition, the cases of chronic laryngitis, regardless of metabolic syndrome (MDR), was divided into four groups: non-obese MD, non-obese MD, obese MD, and obese MD. In these 4 groups: 12 (8.5%) people without non-obese MDF, 23 (16.3%) people with non-obese MDF, 51 (36.1%) people without obese MDF, and 55 (39.0%) people with obese MDF. Cases of chronic laryngitis were more common in obese + women with MDD than in obese + men without MDF.
Conclusions The cases of obesity in people with chronic laryngitis is 73.7%. There was a correlation between chronic laryngitis in obese people of both sexes, and obese and overweight women had a higher risk of developing chronic laryngitis than men.
