Unkomplizierte Harnwegsinfekte (HWI) sind eine häufige Erkrankung: mehr als jede 3. Frau ist im Lauf ihres Lebens davon betroffen, viele davon auch mehrfach [1]>. Die Ursache ist in der Regel eine bakterielle Infektion, zumeist mit Escherichia coli (ca. 75–80% der Erreger). Die klassischen Symptome Dysurie und Pollakisurie grenzen den unkomplizierten Harnwegsinfekt von der asymptomatischen Bakteriurie ab, die nur bei Schwangeren oder immunsupprimierten Patientinnen behandlungsbedürftig ist [2]>.
