Die fetale Mortalität steigt vermutlich nach Überschreiten des Geburtstermins an. Diskutiert wird, ob eine Geburt eingeleitet werden soll oder ob es besser ist, beobachtend abzuwarten, sobald eine Schwangere den Geburtstermin erreicht hat. Darüber hinaus gibt es unterschiedliche Ansätze zur Berechnung des Risikos für eine Totgeburt. Um angemessen über die Risiken der Terminüberschreitung diskutieren zu können, werden aktuelle relevante Daten benötigt.
