Dank einer verbesserten medizinischen Versorgung werden heute mehr Frauen mit angeborenen Herzfehlern schwanger. Weil mehr Frauen in einem höheren Alter gebären und durch die Zunahme von Zivilisationskrankheiten treten außerdem bei Schwangeren immer häufiger Herzinsuffizienz, Herzinfarkt und Sekundenherztod auf. Für Hebammen und Geburtshelfer stellen diese Erkrankungen eine besondere Herausforderung dar, nicht nur in der Schwangerschaft, unter der Geburt und im Wochenbett, sondern bereits präkonzeptionell bei Beratung, Vorbereitung und Planung einer Schwangerschaft.
