Die häufigste Ursache für ein Cauda-equina-Syndrom bei großen mittelalten bis alten Hunden ist eine degenerative lumbosakrale Stenose. Betroffene Tiere können sich klinisch mit Schmerzen beim Springen, Treppensteigen oder Aufstehen, eingeschränkter Beweglichkeit der Rute oder Lahmheit einer Hintergliedmaße präsentieren. Therapeutisch kann eine konservative medikamentelle Schmerzbehandlung versucht werden, häufig ist aber eine chirurgische Dekompression notwendig.
