Longterm complication in mastod obliteration with bone cement
We report a case of mastoidal obliteration of a radical cavity 40 years ago with the technique of Meuser (1987). The patients suffered for about 2 years of a retroauricular fistula with infection of the ear. CT scan showed an opaque oblitaeration of the mastoid. During surgery the bone cement wwas removed showing new bone formation at the entrance of the mastoid. Around the cement there was a chronic infection with foreign body reaction. Teh cavity was cleaned sugically and small aprt were reconstructed with cartlidge.A fter 6 months the caivity was dry. The case showes the importance of long time observation of mastoidal obliteration techniques and the knowledge of surgical procedures used in former times.
