A Rare Challenging Complication Of Intragastric Balloon: Gastric Outlet Obstruction
A woman with obesity, previosly treated with POSE procedure, gets placed a intragastric ballon (Spatz3). 36 hours after, she comes to emergency room complainting epigastric pain and vomits. CT showed esophageal and gastric distention with antral balloon impaction. Urgent gastroscopy failed to reposition the balloon due to POSE-related anatomic alteration, so balloon retrieval was decided. Given the lack of specific endoscopic equipment for this purpose, we tried to deflate balloon with a sclerotherapy needle, being tecnically difficult because of its caliber (23G). An ultrasound-endoscopic biopsy needle (EchoTipProCore19G) was then used to deflate it and retraival was achieved with a snare.
