Zusammenfassung

Die Begriffe Latenzphase und aktive Eröffnungsphase gliedern die Eröffnungsperiode und gehen zurück auf die Arbeiten des US-amerikanischen Gynäkologen Emanuel A. Friedman aus den 1950er Jahren. Seither gehört diese Differenzierung der Eröffnungsperiode international sowohl in wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen als auch in der klinischen Praxis zum üblichen Vorgehen. Auch wenn die Wurzeln für die detaillierte Betrachtung und Bewertung der ersten Geburtsphase im deutschsprachigen Raum liegen, hat sie sich in Deutschland bislang nicht flächendeckend durchgesetzt. In dieser Analyse ausgewählter Hebammenlehrbücher und geburtshilflicher Lehrbücher aus 5 Jahrhunderten sowie historischer als auch aktueller wissenschaftlicher Publikationen werden Merkmale und Verlauf der Phasen beschrieben und diskutiert. Die Differenzierung der Eröffnungsperiode in Latenzphase und aktive Geburtsphase ermöglicht Hebammen und ärztlichen Geburtshelfern und -helferinnen eine spezifische und individuelle Geburtsleitung und Betreuung der Gebärenden während der gesamten Geburt.

Abstract

The division of the first stage of labour into the latent phase and active labour is based on the work of the Boston gynaecologist Emanuel A. Friedman in the 1950s. Since then international research and clinical practice have normally differentiated between the two. However, these concepts are not generally accepted in Germany, even though the basis for Friedman’s work is to be found in the German speaking area. In an analysis of selected current and historical sources covering five centuries, the characteristics of the phases and the course of labour are described. Dividing the first stage of labour into a latent and active phase allows midwives and obstetricians to create a more specific labour management and care of women in labour.
